Big Al - magician

All present were in for a treat as Al demonstrated the close up / tabletop magic way of making coins disappear ( I hear you say so what my missus can do that) But this chap was truly the coin trick master! He showed the group a bunch of great slights and some of his trademark routines.

Coins across, Al's Vanish and coins and scarf routine which was in progress!!

Good lecture

Corporate Magic - For Allen Overy in LONDON City square mile

Tonight I mixed it again yet with the ladies and gents from the City this evening it was 'Allen Overy' the top legal firms turn.

They seemed to enjoy a good mix of Close-up magic, card tricks and mind-reading during the evening.

The photograper took a few snaps and all was good.

The venue was Christ Church Spitalfields, Fournier St, London. A tremendous and very beautiful venue in the heart of the city. Very Magicial!

Back in L.A

So, another trip to L.A this time I met up with my good friends L.A magicians Tony Picasso top geezer and Mr Howar(d) Hamburg. (Pictured) Spend time hanging out and listening to some of Howard’s great stories about Dai Vernon, Jennings and the Boys... My particular favourite was the one about Cardini's monkey.

Also on the trip got to witness the Hooker Card rise, not a trick performed by a lady of the night but by DR Hooker of the early 19th Century, which only a handful of lucky people have ever witnessed. (Prior to this performance only 150 people in all.) These magicians included Harry Houdini, Al Baker, and others of that era. An account (no explanation) can be found in greater magic and Pallbearers Review.

The evening was hosted by Mr Steinmeier and Mr Gaunt they asked the audience to question methods used during the performance and to take notes of possible plausible means. (The effect has never been worked out).

Other highlights were meeting up with a fantastic old card shark (who will remain nameless)... Suffice to say he's the Oregon Gambler who tipped a card muck to Vernon for the revelations book. I sat in his company for 7 whole hours showing me the work and telling tales of times long passed. A truly awesome time!

Put Sav the Deceptionist at the top of your guest list. This conjurer and mind reader has all sorts of magic up his sleeve. In his favourite act, the ‘mix and mingle’, he goes walkabout midparty, wowing guests with random coin disappearances, floating objects and card tricks that’ll get even the dreariest of people talking.

Want to be the host(ess) with the most(est)? Allow Sav to play with your body as well as your head; if you’re lucky, he’ll stuff you in a box and saw you in half. Book Sav for a corporate bash for 200 or a cosy dinner for twenty (where he’ll happily arrive as the mystery guest) and let him work his magic.

He’ll pull out every trick in the hat.

Lynx - Mynx

So tonight I was asked to perform some card stuff on the radio.

For the London Magicians visiting ...

I did a following effects none of them for hire (lol) :-

* Blindfold cut the aces with the Lynx Mynx covering my eyes.
* A Poker stack... great for radio (lol)
* Card thru window with soundproof glass (a la David Blaine)
* Bending Coin
* And a card routine...that was ambitious enough!

Tim Shaw, the presenter (very on the ball) had seen a lot of magic before he was right on the case!!! Trying to push me to make at least one mistake to no avail. He did Invite me back saying that I was much better than all the other magicians they had on!

On air we spoke about Cons scams bets and a mars bar in a pint of beer that looks like a turd.

I had a good time the Lynx Mynx was hot she was accompanied by 3 geezers who considered themselves players...they were nice guys but frankly rubbish! They had won a competition?? and were are off to Miami to try and charm some ladies with tuition from the Mynx...I think there English accent is there only hope!

I enjoyed the show very much ....Tim told me that it was a quiet one. Anyhow, the up-shot was I was unconditionally Invited back which I will take Tim and Lucy up on!

Good show! Late now so I'm off....

Sorry for not spel checkig this btw.

Deceptionist

I a bit to become a little bit pretentious not satisfied of being termed as a 'Close-up table magician in London' I decided to Trademark the word 'Deceptionist' So now I'm the only one that can use it in conjunction with the entertainment industry. wow!

So not only am I the best 'deceptionist' in my house...now technically best one in the World! lol it does have a bit better gravitas than London Close up Magician!

That's got to be good.

Asian Magic

So I'm in Asia, so far been to Hong Kong and China currently in Guangzou.

We head back to Hong Kong on Saturday.

Performed some coin magic today for some chap who was selling old chinese coins on a foot bridge. (Random) Anyhow he liked it a lot, then before I knew it I had a crowd of on lookers. Decied to stop as I didn't want to cause a problem with onlooking soldiers. Strangely Chinese coins did not have a hole in the middle! I have been sold a lie by all those magic dearlers.

In the photo I'm entertaining Kims suppliers at a lunch.

Back in London for this magician

So, Back in London Pefromed at a few corporate gigs already, one for Matrix Money and a few private house partys. All went very well! The money one was a themed as 'Prohibition' where I got to perform my gambling carney set; Lots of poker themed routines and 4 ace tricks.

London is a great place to perform magic the crowds are always that little bit dubious in a (London kind of way) The L.A Crowd were great cos they got off on the accent alone. I did enjoy perfoming to a theatre rather than walkaround close-up magic. Updated my Podcast for the castle http://web.mac.com/savruse/iWeb/Sav%20Podcast/Podcast/CAE19D73-7174-41F3-95E6-119C1B9B1416.html

Lots of enquirys are coming in which hopefully pay for the wedding!

Magic Castle - March 07

Day 6 - (Mon) The First night... So the evening got off to a good start Shows attended by Magicians Handsome Jack, Derek DelGuardio and Head of Entertainment Todd Carr. Had lots of positive feedback on the act, however I over run to 25mins on the first show so had to cut my coin routine. Starsky and hutch and the Big Cheese routines are going well. Audience were getting into the show the quirky humor as expected. Other than that Hollwood is pretty fun reminds me a little of Leicester Sq crossed with Camden Lock.

Day 7 - (Tue) As its now Thursday I've forgotten what the hell I did, went over act again...thats it headed down to Hollywood magic looked around bought nothing much exciting execept a few tee shirts from a rock store. Act went well again spoke to Milt Larsen (owner of the castle) he gave me a pat on the back.

Day 8 - (Wed) Today to pass the time I took a celelebrtiy tour of Hollywood the guide Marco Italian fella had the best accent and played it up very well. Very entertaining chap for 2 hours had me and the bus in stitches. Actually saw Samuel L Jackson in a car also Mick Jagger passenger in a brown Bentley. Homes included Paris Hilton, OZZY and Colombo. Ha Ha. The show went well except for the first show I almost had to throw somone out for being a little bit drunk and raucus. Chatted to Mr Seabrooke and Greg Wilson amongst others also met 2 other castle guys Brian and Howar(d) Hamburg both real gentlemen! Howar(d) told me loads of great storys about the Professor, Jennings Ose and Miller.

Day 9 - (Thurs) Sat with Mr Terry Seabrooke he was good enough to go through the Slydini paper tear with me, other than that just chilled out.....so far read Marlo book. Got to castle did my 3 shows Chris Korn came along as did Lou Serrano and My main man Mr Tony Piccasso all liked the show. I'm waiting to speak with Mr Piccasso for his full report.

Day 10 - (Friday) Woke to a call from John LovicK Informing me that I had to perform an extra lunch show for the senior members of the castle, including Pete Biro and Milt Larsen amongst others they liked the show a lot! Also got the chance to meet Richard Sherman the guy who wrote the scores for MAry Poppins amongst others. One quick change into a pair of combat shorts later, I headed down to the Hollywood Blvd for some shopping, decided to walk back a different route to the castle lots of heavy traffic. So was waiting to cross the street (no jay walking) .... traffic had came to stand still over crossing... I get to middle of the street look up to my right where I see a really nice shiny black convertable Mercedes just to my side...then I notice it was being driven by Mr Brad Pitt (lol) I stop like a deer in the head lights in a cliche double take...we both make eye contact we both smile with amusement at the situation... I tip my trilby then walk on. Man, only in Hollywood!! (3 spots so far)

Off now to the castle to meet Mr Picasso and possibly the busyiest night so far.

So just got back to hotel, had quite honestly the best shows that I've EVER EVER done full stop! The audience in the close-up gallery were hanging on every word followig every bit of misdirection. Unknown to me Billy Mc Combs old assistant was in the audience (who was incidentally best friends with Charlie Miller) She came to me after the show to tell me, "you have great shades of Billys persona mixed with wonderful sleight of hand equal to that of Charlie Miller"! Then went on to say that Billy and Charlie would have REALLY loved my show and that I was one of her favorite performers she has seen at the castle over the past few years.

Hmmm ; I now realise that my show has clicked...my timing and lines are almost perfect! I can't wait to perform tomorrow for Mr St Patricks day.

In the basement diamond geezer Tony Picasso was on form to full effect, the guy is a proverbial (O.C.D) genius with a deck of pasteboards, his business is cheating at cards to perfection. Later he gave me some invaluable advice which helped a lot; now out of the hole. So, thanks Mr P if you every read this! (now, piss off) lol.

Day 11 - (Sat St Paddys day!) Saw a huge War Rally (20,000) in Hollywood ended up at the magic shop to get some supplys. Got castle on time shows where a little bit flatter today maybe the guiness thinking about it the host Marty was pretty flat at introducing my act! I likes Matt and the other guy much better.... Anyhow I did extra show because tonnes of extra people wanting to see magic tonight.

Sat at the bar chatting to friendly Americans about sight-seeing ideas, Gregs Wilsons charming girlfriend recommended Huntington gardens. Later in the evening I spoke to Greg about his credit card to sock and metal detector routines and how I'd seen a similar act in the UK a few months back.

On the ego front I had lots of fans again LOL... at the end of the night Howar(d) told me the story of the missing (d) talk about the Vernon touch.

Day 12 - (Sunday) went sight seeing to Huntington gardens, Quiet and chilled for L.A. Cactus gardens and Japanese gardens. Pretty cool. Back to castle for my last night. First show was attended be Greg Wilson and Todd Robbins. Both enjoyed the show Greg told me that my card work was seamless. Todd laughed out loud at some jokes which is a good thing.

Also My old friend Dan Harlan showed up, he enjoyed my act too liked the cheese bit, he even bought me a few gifts. What a nice man (also gave me some Mc Giver feedback). Mindy Billys old magic assistant came to see my last show and gave me a gift of some old footage of her and Mc comb performing an audition. Spoke with card men Howar(d), Brian, Bill Goodwn (Genius) and Tony P again. All made me feel at home over the last week. (Thanks guys)

Quite tired...headed back around 2am.

Day 13 - (Monday) Packed case, checked out bumped int Gazzo and Billy Kid in the lobby...now of for coffee with them....Forgot how much Gazzo makes you laugh, bit like Ricky Gervais of magic world, spot on dead pan humor. Knock knock whos there, control freak....hahahh. Top man. Billy was cool too. I've got some gereat magic mates, Gazzo is one of those where u pick up where u left off. (Having a great time).

One more hour by the pool...then off to airport.

Vegas March 07

Day 1 (Wed)- So, I've arrived in Vegas. No real great magic news as yet other than made and entertained various single-serving friends. Won $200 bucks on the craps table the shooter was 'hot' rolled for a good 30 mins. Other had a quick trot about the place.

Day 2 (Thur) - Jet lag kicking in a bit, Went to the gambling supply store situated downtown bought book on hand mucking, a few decks, a poker cloth and a magnetic fridge type Vegas egg timer. Got cab back to hotel, Sat near pool reading 'The Carditian' by Marlo...easy pool reading (not) eavesdropped some valley girl conversation that was really yeah like no, but yeah but no...lol. Checked out my venue for tomorrow night. Won further $200 on the Roulette grin Ate Mahi Mahi for dinner, Spoke with my good mate Noel qualter re:act brainstormed afew ideas, Meant to meet some friends, but ended up crashing out.

Day 3 (Fri) - Was woken (4am) in a cold sweat to a phonecall, some woman who was a florist who had been given my name and number to find out what time I would like flowers delivered to Myleen Klass? Could it be a covert codeword? was I dreaming... I just dont know. (Fear and Loathing moment!) Rehearsing castle act today....Did my show at Mix Resturant at Mandelay bay for a bunch of Leading Publishers, great view from the window 41 floors over Vegas at night, Really breathtaking.Ended up having few drinks afterwards and headed out to few other bars till the small hours.

Day 4 (Sat) - Woke in another fear and loathing moment... bewilderd with the hangover and maybe loss off money from gambling? drink? or just a good night out? Headed to the Vanitian swimming pool to meet up with some friends from england. Then off to get some hearty chow at one of the many Vegas eateries...sushi today...delcious. Kind of a nothing day really headed to the casino cashed out my winnings. (nice job) set my alarm call for 7.45am

Day 5 (Sun) - Alarm call mysteriously went off at 6.45am what the hell.... Now plenty of time extra to mince about befor getting fligh! Lulled in to a sense of this I headed down to check out and have a steady 1 hour buffet breakfast like I had mind mapped the night before. HOWEVER the nice lady at reception Informed me that President Bush had decided to change the time zone in America (only america) so it falls on 11 March! What a nightmare no one told me!! Bad enough Vegas not having any clocks! So Headed strait to Airport. Got on full flight got chatting to my self serving friends of which I invited one to come and see my Hollywood Show. Took a shared bus to hotel the geezer was heavy on the breaks that annoyed me greatly. Arrived at the Lovley Magic Castle Hotel 80 degrees weather (no cocroaches as yet). Headed Downtown to check it out.
